چکیده

This study presents two anomalies that were found in wild common sole (Solea solea Linnaeus, 1758) specimens. Specimens captured with 80 mm stretched mesh size trammel net incidentally (in June 2014 and December 2015) from Güllük Bay, southwest of Turkey where is one the important fishery areas. Female specimen has lateral line anomaly. According to observations, unordinary shape – labyrinth like, furcate. Other sample, male specimen, caudal fin The large body hence, it was thought having no did not affect its swimming ability besides activities like feeding. present contributes literature about rare fish stocks.

Effect of exposure to petroleum hydrocarbons upon cardio-respiratory function in the common sole (Solea solea).

The long term consequences of oil exposure upon marine populations are still poorly evaluated. One particular missing piece of information relates to the link between oil exposure, individuals' ability to face environmental contingencies and populations' production and dynamics. In that context, the present paper investigates the impact of oil exposure upon fish cardio-respiratory performance, ...

Metamorphosis and estuarine colonisation in the common sole, Solea solea (L.): implications for recruitment regulation

Processes involved in both metamorphosis and settlement of young sole were studied at the population, cohort and individual level in order to evaluate their role in survival and recruitment regulation. Metamorphosis can be defined as a phase of variable duration (10 days on average) at the end of which the larval period of pelagic dissemination is completed. Size at the onset of metamorphosis i...

Effects of exposure to petroleum hydrocarbons upon the metabolism of the common sole Solea solea.

On December 12th, 1999, the oil tanker Erika sank off the southern coast of Brittany (France), releasing 20000-30000tons of heavy oil in the open sea. Among the affected coastal habitats were important nurseries for numerous flatfish species and particularly for the common sole, Solea solea. To investigate the potential impact of the spill on this economically significant resource, we employed ...

Phenotypic and genetic differentiation in young-of-the-year common sole (Solea solea) at differentially contaminated nursery grounds.

Growth-related characters, condition factor, and genetic differentiation were investigated for a single cohort of young-of-the-year (YOY) sole within and among nurseries with differing levels of heavy metals (Cd, Cu and Zn) contamination in the two Charentais Straits, Bay of Biscay, France. Analyses were performed when individuals recruited (May), then after a full summer spent in each nursery ...

Estimating breeding values with molecular relatedness and reconstructed pedigrees in natural mating populations of common sole, Solea solea.

Captive populations where natural mating in groups is used to obtain offspring typically yield unbalanced population structures with highly skewed parental contributions and unknown pedigrees. Consequently, for genetic parameter estimation, relationships need to be reconstructed or estimated using DNA marker data. With missing parents and natural mating groups, commonly used pedigree reconstruc...
